One of the reasons for the Ascension was to take the place as High Priest, at the Right Hand of the Most High. We need to specify what this role means for the world, the Church and the believers. This will give us immense understanding in how we are walking where we are and how we are.
We will examine in this chapter of this series the difference ways that Jesus qualifies after the order of Melchizedek and how that transports down to the Church and the believer.
Not out of a law of carnal commandment but after the power of an endless life
The story of Melchizedek is a mysterious one and Scripture alludes to the fact that he had no ascendancy , or rather no lineage to speak of, and the Scriptures speak not of his death. It is understood that Melchizedek was of eternal stock, not fully human but also divine. Jesus’ high priestly role is after this order because Jesus is eternal. He died once to atone for our sins. His endless life gives efficacy to His roles, being that being eternal gives Him a different perspective of eternal processes which mortals do not have. Jesus does not minister to our mortal life here on earth only but also our eternal life in the eternal realms which shall open out to us in eternity. Hence this being a qualification for Him being High Priest.
He lives to make intercession for us
One of the purposes of Him being eternal is His intercession, to us, who are heirs in partaking of His inheritance. His inheritance is to us eternal life, joy and fellowship face to face with God, residing and habitating in His eternal abodes, the heavens and new earth. He will take from us the effects of the fall of Adam and bring us into perfection. As Jude points out, “He will present us before the Father with exceeding joy.” The Holy Spirit making us ready at Jesus’ supervision to be made into the image of Him who created the New Man. His intercession for us now is “He who has ears Hear what the Spirit says and to him who overcomes…” Right there, the aim, that we overcome all before His return.
King of Peace, King of Righteousness and Eternal King
We have examined in series past in teachings I have given to groups about the connection between Melchizedek, David and the Lord Jesus. They are all flow in 3 aspects…the first being this as King. A King that operates in righteousness must operate the two pillars of reigning: Mishpawt (Justice) and Tsedekar (Righteousness). These must flow together FROM the Throne. Psalm 89 David tells us this key and pattern of a righteous reign of a king sold out to serving God. Where there is justice and righteousness there is peace. The psalms tells us that where there is an absence of justice, there is a rebellion that installs in the subjects of that king. Where there is a lack of justice then lawlessness abounds and righteousness disappears.
I think in modern day ruling classes we are seeing the evidence that justice has disappeared from many places. The result is that the country loses cohesion and lack of harmony, where every sector suffers. We need the Church to flow in its Kingly role that Jesus left us in His Spirit.
If there is a change of priesthood there must be a change of law.
The priest administers the requirements of the Law that He serves. Levi served the Law that Moses received from God. Jesus serves the Law of the Spirit by merit of His own Blood and efficacy of His Eternal Priesthood. For the law of sin and death, targeted by the Law Moses received had to be fulfilled in Jesus’ human life here on earth, and a new Law instituted by Him at the Right Hand. The Law that led to death, and led us to the acknowledgment we needed a Saviour was replaced by a Law that said we needed a King.
By so much was Jesus made surety of a better Testament
The fact that Jesus was a lamb, to the slaughter, the embodiment of a perfect sacrifice, blood acquired, perfect and eternal, satisfies the Blood Covenant, to fulfil the Covenant given to Moses, and Jesus having died, was the Testator, able to confer on His heirs, us, the covenant, and by virtue of His resurrection He is our High Priest and King, we also become Kings and Priests unto God.
These intertwining statutes makes it sure, unbreakable by His Person, His Power and His Purpose this New Covenant. He is the Lamb that brings redemption, He is the King that brings Light and Peace.
For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens.
This describes what Philippians 2 tells us, what He subject Himself to, and the Father exalted Him to the highest place. His sacrifice was not for Himself, because He was in all times, perfect, yet offered up Himself as a perfect Lamb. In Revelation 5 we see a dilemma unfold in the Heavens. The Book with 7 seals was forever closed, seals intact. Noone was found worthy, yet the Lamb Ascended and was presented before the Ancient of Days, and was FOUND WORTHY or Nikao in the Greek.
Its ironic that Jesus in the 7 letters that the Apostle John wrote, Jesus exhorts the saints to enter the same Nikao that Jesus did, unlocking the seals of the Book. It means that as much as Jesus is exalted to the Highest Place, so we too have this destiny, not of our own merit, but His, and His Kingship, Priesthood.
It seems that the Church does not seem that it reflects this prevailing power, or the strength to overcome all temptation and enemy strategy. Yet Jesus has charged the Holy Spirit to get the Church ready…His Right Hand position is for this process, to make the Church become His Bride.
So let us embrace His qualifications in our comprehension so that we too shall conform to His image. His intercession is effective to bring us into increasing understanding of our priesthood that He has implanted in us by His Spirit. His role at the Right Hand is to bring us into the place where we will walk perfectly and holy into His eternal realms.
