There is a need to have Jesus open the Scriptures to us, so we fall in Love with Him, because He is the Word itself. In the midst of conflicting narratives, commentaries, the only which is trustworthy and true is the one that Jesus wants to open to us. I confess that the mobile phone has taken over our lives, in certain ways, as it presents to us a universe that requires discipline to tear ourselves away.
The reason I mention it is the amount of the global narrative is notified through the mobile phone. The amount of notifications from news outlets that come each day. We need to make a transition and look to search out the eternal and true narrative, of Jesus Christ. Here in Luke 24 Jesus comes to show through His Word the true narrative of the devastating events they had just passed through. Starting with Moses, the prophets and the Psalms. They are confronted. They are comforted, they are commissioned in the things of eternity.
What they begin to see is that what they were living was not chance events but planned events from eternity. Jesus’ narrative comes from eternity and ends in eternity. They are planned from that dimension. There is no coincidences, no accidents, it just fell into place in a precise way because over it all a Divine Hand was gently pressing into place the greatest event of all time that has never happened in eternity, the Cross.
This place of defeat became the place of ultimate and all time victory. This place of death became the place of eternal life. This place of darkness became the place of the greatest life. This event is prophesied all over old Scripture. The prophets looked on in wonder, at such a gruesome end, and a glorious beginning.
I believe that for this time as with these two disciples on the Road to Emmaus, were positioned by the Word of God, the Scriptures. The walk of Emmaus is transitioning from a earthly perspective to a heavenly vision. I believe we are coming into that time, that we will become intimate with the Word, and with Jesus of the Word. It is obvious when you come to Revelation 22, when both the Bride and the Spirit will cry out for the Lord, saying “Come Lord”, and we with our wonder at His Words and His works we will begin to get such a clear vision who He is, in it all, the centre. He will come to the Church, not to reveal the Moses, or the Prophets, but reveal the Gospels, the Acts, the Epistles, and Revelation.
The Scriptures have only one person to honour and glorify, and adore, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, son of man, Son of David. And the Church ever since the first generations have need always to have a fresh revelation of Jesus. We need to recite the Creeds, not as an end in themselves, but a start to begin our “Road to Emmaus” experience, where we gain a heavenly and glorious revelation of Him.
As we behold Him, so we will become like Him. The Spirit is conforming and confirming His Image in us. And as such a great new awakening of His Word is coming. When we understand that without His Word no light can be birthed in us.
“Arise shine for your light has come!” Isaiah 60. This prophesies our new awakening, where the only way to arise is to behold His Light, for which we know is the Lamp to our feet. (Psalm 119). Let us arise in these days, and perceive Him through the Scriptures.
