Christian Nationalism?

The Guardian recently spoke of certain Christian leaders as being “far right Christian nationalists”.

I found that statement pretty disquieting and set to pray and meditate on this. The answers that came back to me were very specific.

The context of the time that Jesus lived was in a Israel that was no longer a nation in its own right. The religious class pursued a status quo with the Roman authorities. However, there were a select group called Zealots who saw the overthrow of Rome as their dream and an overthrow militarily was contemplated.

Yet Jesus’ mission was preaching a Kingdom that had nothing to do with the political situation or even engaged political process in any fashion. This Kingdom would conquer by transformation of the heart not by physical and military process.

We see via documented history that the Roman empire collapsed after accepting the Christian faith.

I sense that elements within the Church are yet again making the same mistakes because they see the country needing change. Words like “civil war” are broadcast.

From the example of Christ i see this rhetoric is unhelpful and already the faith is being politicised into the camp of “far right ” and tells you that the Church is being seen as a political force. This betrays the Gospel.

What can the Church do?

The most powerful “warfare” is to be done on our knees in prayer. It is the only means to begin to see change not just in the nation but in our own hearts. Maybe the state of a nation is due to the Church deviating from its own calling.

The Gospel and it’s application and manifestations is nothing political. Not with its falsehood and corruption. To get involved in this system is deception itself.

I hope and pray that leaders wake up and instead of political mobilisation we mobilise in prayer. This way the changes needed will start in the saints first and in true representation of Christ the Gospel can be heard without ambiguity.

Revivals are the key, and they transform. The shed Blood of Jesus negate the need for political bloodshed. I pray people see these political movements as a distraction from our real Call.

Maranatha!!!
