Today we celebrate the Day of Pentecost as I am writing. We cannot let go by this day without understanding the preparation which Luke 24 is for what happened on Acts 2. As Jesus lifts the bread so their eyes are opened as to who He was there in Emmaus. We do not seek the Holy Spirit, even as He is promised, but the connection between Jesus’ exaltation and being set at the Father’s Right Hand is key to the coming of the Holy Spirit and His comings every generation since. There was only one thing Jesus commanded the disciples to do was STAY in Jerusalem. The next thing was WAIT in prayer for God’s promise. I believe that these conditions for us are key because Jesus has already been exalted and seated at the Right Hand.
As He has blessed the bread so their eyes perceive and also understand that He won over death and Hades. This convinces them that He is the Messiah. yet He disappears from their presence, because is to begin a new phase, not depending on His physical presence but begin to understand that through the Holy Spirit they would depend on Him through the third person of the Godhead. The key is to know Him as He is, the purpose of these publications, the purpose of our spiritual journey. We have come from our spiritual Jerusalem, where happenings that shattered our dreams and our expectations, changed our world, hence we decided to go to Emmaus, not knowing that we would encounter Jesus in a way we did not expect.
This is very personal to me, since the beginning of 2024 with all what has gone on, bereavements and all the issues surrounding that, I have still met the Lord in very unexpected ways. Now we need to experience a New Pentecost, so that we come into a place where in our separation from the world, separation unto God many will be impacted in our generation.
The key is how we behold Him, as we should will determine the fact of how we will be in the right place and the right spirit to be endued of the Promise of the Father.
As we perceive Him, so we shall receive His Holy Spirit, and conceive the greater works. Jesus is the centre, He is the Testimony that brings true Prophecy, that proclaims His coming TO us, and FOR us, and WITH us. Such a wonderful vision, that washes away the tradition that the end is about us barely hanging on, Even Jude, in his letter tells us that He shall keep us, He being the Holy Spirit, until the end, and present us before the Father without blemish and blameless. How wonderful. So this remembrance on this Day of Pentecost is not such vain religiosity, it is our desire and we are sure it is His, to endue us afresh with the Holy Spirit.
Some 2 or 3 years ago, on the Day of Pentecost I was away, struggling with some personal issue, that meant that I needed to depend on Jesus more, and as I prayed on that day specifically, I remember talking to a dear friend, when I ended the call, the Holy Spirit came into that room in such a way that strength and capacity for victory came. It was wonderful because I sensed that perfect fellowship, I had experienced my personal Pentecost. And my emotional sadness that I felt that day, disappeared and replaced with a strengthening. So this Road to Emmaus has to be that strength for the transition, because as we are walking the Christian life, we are on a pursuit to know Jesus fully that we transition from knowing Him, of Him, to coming to union with Him. A totally different realm, one that the disciples transitioned over 50 days. From His resurrection to Pentecost was 50 days.
The key to this experience is Jesus. The One who sends the Spirit is Jesus, and who prepares us for eternity is Jesus, via His Holy Spirit. May we embrace this process.
