We are shortly coming to the end of this Journey. Last chapter of our journey we saw the consistency of how the Table appears throughout the covenants. Now we also see the consistency of Bread.
When we go back to Genesis 14 we see Melchizedek come with both Bread 🍞 and Wine 🍷 to Abraham heir to the Great Possessor and bestower of covenants.
Abraham is blessed with this encounter. He is blessed through the Promises that comes through covenanted bread. Present in the covenant exchange.
The bread symbolises Scripture.
The Bread is God’s precious Promise that God declares over us.
It appears again in the form of Manna in the wilderness. Psalm 105 tells us it was angel food.
It was supernatural sustenance whilst the nation moved toward the fulness of Abraham’s covenant. It was a token that God was being faithful to sustain them to the fulness of the possession promised in the covenant. The promised Land.
Jesus in John’s Gospel teaches that He Himself is the bread from heaven. John 6 tells us how Jesus brings them to the connection that the Bread that comes from Covenant from Genesis 14, and the Bread that Sustains the covenant in Exodus, now in Jesus is the fulness of Bread in a Person, who can save, redeem and set apart for eternal life. It is He who regenerates us and it is the Bread that sets us apart as His Church.
For Jesus institutes the Bread being His Body, broken for our wholeness and making us His Church, His Body, His Covenant people who are on route to our fulness of our Covenant in Christ which is Eternal life.
So it is not by chance that in Luke 24 we see how the lifting of Bread is key to opening spiritual eyes. Our interaction with Christ must come through the Table and the Bread which is set upon it.
This journey is about comprehending and beholding Christ afresh, so that in doing so we find our true vocation. The Church, the saints must understand that the depth of Christ’s Presence is conditional upon our eyes being opened and beholding Him as He is.
