[18] In Rama was there a voice heard, Lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, And would not be comforted, because they are not.
The Christmas story is not all glory and light. There is a generational price to be paid for Jesus being born. Judea would grasp the evil that becomes manifest when rulers become insecure. Herod was determined not just to find this ruler whose birth is marked with great signs and travellers from the East.
Herod the Great is the ruler of the day, and his “greatness” started to decline when Jesus is born. Yes this decline starts with the murder of a generation of babies born at that time. The pain of this event cannot be imagined as mothers across Judea cry out together as children lay lifeless in their homes and in the streets.
There is no comfort to be had and we must trust in the justice of God in the eternal realms.
We can certainly say that 2023 has been a very tough year. We can verify that there are many “Herods” still trying to kill off our faith in our generation. The very atmosphere felt across the nation is very negative. Herod and his political elite want to make sure we are depressed. Make sure we don’t imagine, receive, reach any kind of light for this season.
Then the images of atrocities deaden our spirit. This deadening causes us to stop ADORING the Saviour!
In every participant in His Coming is no stranger to ADORATION. it is the key to binding up kings in irons, so Psalm 149 tells us. Herod is thwarted and is shown for what he is, a ruler without divine mandate and covenant. He is the total opposite of David. And Herod’s kingdom ends with his son Archelaus.
For many this Christmas may see the shadow of Herod in your life and home but know that Jesus was born and Herod did not stop God’s plan from success. Therefore know that as we enter this season, we can be assured that as we trust Him He will lead us to be participants of His Coming, motive of joy and hope.
