RESTORATION: Lessons from the Captivity 14; He received a Kingdom and Dominion

13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like rthe Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. 14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

When we envisage the Captivity in this manner we see directly the reason why Daniel is given these visions. The Captivity beyond given the captives a process of purification, is a process of substituting physical temple with a heavenly one, and a earthly king with a Heavenly King. In the shape of the Messiah who would be the root and offspring of David. (Revelation 22).

The Captivity was a bridge, from departing from the earthly to embrace the heavenly. And God, to prepare the way for His Son, to reign kingdoms were needed to fall, and to move out of the way, for Jesus to come for His first mission, and to complete the work that was needed to make the substitution. It must be seen this way, because it makes sense, gives a sense of continuity, in fulfilling the words of all the prophets, in their heavenly visions. The projection is always eternity, promoting all that is eternal, invisible and permanent. The small thrones, says Daniel 7 were brought down. We see this mirror Psalm 2 of David, who also spells out this transition. Then when Jesus ascends, what we see is another stage in the whole Messianic mission, 2000 years of heavenly ministry from the Right Hand of the Father.

“Ask of Me” says the Father to the Son, and the Father is forever making that statement until Jesus’ return. We must to make sense of the current chaos, injustice, cruelty, persecution, have this heavenly vision. The heavenly vision of Daniel in chapter 7 comes after an extended period of wrestling over Jeremiah’s specific word of Jeremiah 29. 70 years were completing. Where is the return? Where are the signs? The signs had to come from heaven to show what heaven was doing. Here Daniel is in the Palace, in the shadow of the earthly throne of Persia, and God was about to show how these earthly thrones were to crumble at the manifestation of the Heavenly Throne.

The writing was declared upon the wall, the earthly throne had been weighed and found wanting, God was about to in one night, depose and make disappear. And as earthly thrones disappeared to make way for the King of Glory, Psalm 24, so even today the earthly thrones must make way for the Messianic Manifestation. Who is this King of Glory? He is Righteous and He is crowned of the Father. He is the embodiment of the “axios” of the Father, His Justice and Righteousness, two pillars of the Davidic Throne. Psalm 89.

He is ushered before the Ancient of Days, and was given Dominion, a Kingdom. We are seeing with Daniel, describing a Coronation. It is the end of half an hour silence as Jesus entered Heaven when He ascended completing His earthly mission.

The Coronation of our Messiah, in heaven is a foreshadowing of our own. For all those who embrace Jesus totally shall share in a future sharing in regal glory. He received Dominion for which hell and all who oppose God shall know. He is given a Kingdom whose citizens hold the same power as the King. This power is coming in greater degrees as the return of the King

“Authority is not given to you to deny the Return of the King, Steward!”

A very poignant scene from Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings. It seems Tolkein is prophesying to our days, where the stewardship of the Kingdom is resisting the return of the King. Yet those who resist His Coming will be swept away in madness like Denethor in the tale.

The Captivity in the time of Daniel was to prepare for the Messiah’s first coming, and the current age is to prepare for His Return. He shall not come as a Saviour or Servant. He shall come enthroned and crowned with glory. And it is imperative we receive Heavenly vision and wisdom. There is much we need to see and understanding. We do not see how massive this process is. The key is really understanding the Messiah receiving dominion and a Kingdom. Our church function is to prepare for this coming, not preaching peace and prosperity. There is much suffering. Revelation 5 ties the Blood of Jesus to His being justice itself, and worthy to open the seals, so that the fullness of Kingdom can manifest.

As the Seals are opened, judgment flows to the wicked and recompense to the righteous. Our transition to eternity may require ultimate sacrifices, but do not change the fact that He has been given Dominion and a Kingdom forever. Maybe our sacrifices pave for the ultimate judgments.

The key is perceiving heaven’s programme, and knowing that God has prepared for this moment in eternity past. And as the Captives returned to Zion we too shall return to the New Jerusalem where we will adore Him for all eternity.

Maranatha!
