This Scripture in Genesis 28 is God’s promise to a journeying Jacob. God promises that Jacob would experience the fullness of covenant in His Life, and even though he would be away for many years God would turn the tide and bring him back to reconcile his past and prepare him to birth the 12 sons who would form the foundation of the nation of Israel.
When Joseph had his brothers in Egypt needing his help as governor, not knowing him as Joseph their brother, when he revealed himself the brothers feared, but he showed them whatever was intended for evil was turned for good because of covenant.
I believe we have come to a season like this, where men and women of God who have only known obscurity are being prepared to take their ultimate positions in their call. There is however a process God must take His people through. He must reconcile their past and show them how He is turning it all for good. In Jacob’s life, after 21 years of prosperous but arduous toil, wives and sons, animals, now he must return to the land promised to him by covenant. For that he must reconcile with Esau and show him the due respect. He must reconcile, however before this, angels crossed his path. I sense that when God is taking us to our ultimate call, we see angelic ministry at work around us. Then we meet a particular mighty angel who fights us, and we determine that whilst covenant is with us, we know that our determination, our persistence must pay off, for us to be given a new name and a new destiny. Only then can our pursuits, our reconciliations with former places and people.
In this period of bereavement much that I had forgotten, family wise, and my first years in the Christian walk, have been brought back to the fore to show me that despite going away many years ago, I have been brought to a place where God has blessed me and led me in ways I could never imagine. The reconciliation with the past is bringing a harmony and consistency with the past so that the future would make sense. Sometimes in our zeal we can launch out in God and separate from people and places that were foundations for us. God turns all that which harmed, hurt, wounded, betrayed us in the past and shows us how He reconciles it in Himself, through covenant.
Joseph showed his brothers that in spite of him now occupying a powerful position he would not use that God given position to get even. He recognised with humility that God used all those negative experiences to be building blocks of humility and obedience in his walk with God. And when his own brothers were in dire need he extended a hand to bring aid and a place of security in Goshen. This place that Joseph would provide would become the distinction God would make in the judgments brought by Moses on the nation in years future.
True end time leaders and those moving in the purposes are always obedient and humble. They recognise that despite hard decades in obscure places, their walk listening to God prepared them to be a support and and aid in times of emergency. There are emergencies that will come this year, and a time when people will cry out when things will be impossible. God has placed members of families in His Kingdom who would have been despised for many a time, but in the time needed they will be seen as key helps in times when all fails.
This is the season when the humble shall be exalted. The humble are content with their obscurity and being unknown, and when they are lifted they occupy their place with humility and bring a place of security to those who search for God.
May we perceive the season!
